Do You Love Work? Well, You Should and Here’s why.
Have you ever woken up in the morning with the dread of going to a place you don’t want to be for 8+ hours and just assumed that is work?
Well, for some time I would have agreed with you, I know many people around the world do.
What Companies Think.
Why would something called ‘Work’ be joyful? You’re here to make money for someone else, to progress their company and to build someone else’s dream. What part of that sounds fun?
This needs to change. Because apart from the numerous studies that have found a link between employee happiness and employee productivity. The bottom line is, a happy employee is more beneficial to a company. A happy employee wants to work for you not because they feel they obliged to but because they love what they do.
That’s why a CEO would love you to enjoy work but why should you love work?
The Statistics
Below are numbers. Numbers that show how much of your lifetime you will spend in the workplace.
Assuming a lifespan of 76 years, working a 39.5 hour week with 8 hours sleep per night then you spend 92,120 hours of your adult life (From 18–76) on average working for someone else.
That’s 23% of your entire adult life!
Nearly a quarter of your life!
Are you starting to see the scale the problem in the world?
Ask yourself
How many people in the world are working a job they hate?
How many people are wishing away a quarter of their life?
Do you want to join that statistic?
Or, are you going to do something about it?
What to do next?
So, you’ve decided to make a change? Well done. You’ve done the easiest part of the game. Next, you have to decide what to change, why to change it and how you should change it.
Observe your work and your life. Record the things you do. What do you like? What do you hate? Try and find a common link between these things and then move your work and your career towards the things you like and away from the things you hate.
It doesn’t matter how long it takes you to do it. As long as you do it.
“The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.” — Confucius
Long lasting happiness often doesn’t come overnight, but instead, it is worked for and built up over time. You won’t see any changes today, tomorrow or even next week but eventually after all your small pieces of work start to build up. You will feel better. Your happiness will begin to show, not just in your work but in everything you do.
Finally
Remember one thing. It is a long journey ahead, one you must be prepared for. It will be hard, but you have to promise to yourself not to give in and to keep going no matter what.
Life is a game, a game we intended to win!
I wish you the best of luck on your journey to work and life happiness.
Thank you.
