We Fucked It Up guys…

We Had It All and Blow It. Every Single One Of us…

Quick Disclaimer

Usually, I am not one for politics or world issues. I tend to distance myself from them.

The news is a dark place that only spreads misery throughout the world.

There is always a war somewhere in the world, a new disease that’s going to kill humanity or another humanitarian crisis that just occurred. What part of that seems fun or educational in any way? So, for these reasons I elect to ignore the news and writing about current events in the world.

But there is something I have to say…

Something I can’t stop thinking about…

Something I just have to say and get off my chest…

We fucked it up!

Recently, I have been reading through Bernie Sanders Autobiography ‘Our Revolution’. If you haven’t read it, then I highly recommend it.

This book, however, has changed my opinion on the world we live in and how we treat it. But most importantly, how we are running it.

We have this delicate, beautiful miracle of a planet and we are killing it.

I’m not going to go on about environmental politics or science though. While climate change is a massive problem in the world, there is a more significant problem causing more damage to the world.

Wealth Inequality

It’s not right.

I mentioned I’m reading ‘Our Revolution’ and how that book has changed my perspective and opened my eyes to the problems of wealth inequality in the world.

I knew wealth inequality was bad but not this bad.

To quote Bernie Sanders on this:

There is something profoundly wrong when one family owns more wealth than the bottom 130 million Americans.

And,

It is not moral, it is not acceptable, and it is not sustainable that the top one-tenth of 1 percent now owns almost as much wealth as the bottom 90 percent.

I think he got it right in the opening sentence of that quote.

It is not moral, it is not acceptable, and it is not sustainable

If anyone, I mean anyone can explain to me how this sort of wealth inequality is fair, moral or just then I will shut up. But, I think you’ll have a serious challenge doing that.

Because, when 130 million Americans don’t even match the wealth of one family there is a problem. And, what are we doing about this?

Nothing!

I’m not an expert…

I know, I’m not an expert in either wealthy inequality or politics. So, how can I talk about this issue? Because I’m a human being, who has a moral conscious and can see we have a problem.

Money does not blind me.

I understand it’s only natural that the families with all the wealth want to protect it. I mean it’s theirs, right? And, they’re entitled to what theirs, aren’t they?

Well, what about the starving cities, hungry children and crime-ridden communities. Do they deserve that too because they have no money?

Again, I don’t need to be an ‘expert’ to see that as a problem. I don’t need to be an ‘expert’ to see that a rich man not affording his next mansion is less of a problem than a child not being able to eat every night.

Who twisted our moral compasses to the extent they no longer see world poverty as a problem?

World poverty and wealth inequality are the two most substantial problems facing our world today. And, that’s it. It’s ours.

Our responsibility.

Our home.

Our problem.

But are we doing our bit?

Are the top 1/10 of the top 1% doing their bit? I bet not…

The solution

Wealth inequality and World Poverty are entwined. If one goes up so does the other.

To solve wealth inequality we need to raise worker wages which starts with CEO’s taking less profit for themselves and giving back to their employees.

Once we begin closing the gap on wealth inequality throughout the world, we can start curing world poverty.

Yes, it will be a long and hard battle. But do we have a choice but to fight it?

As human beings, we have a moral obligation to fight for and protect our fellow human beings regardless of ethnicity, heritage and backgrounds.

We all walk different paths but we’re all walking together, and that’s what matters.

I had to get this off my chest. How this problem even began is beyond me, but that doesn’t matter now. All that matters is we fix it before it’s too late. And, we can start making a difference today by building awareness about the problems we face.

If you want to help build awareness, then I ask you to share this article so others can understand the problems we’re facing.

Maybe not today or tomorrow but someday in the future. We can say that poverty is no more.

Let’s cure poverty and abolish wealth inequality together!
